Events and Rides

Our weekly ride is Saturday at 7 am starting at the Kona Aquatic Center and going to the entrance of West Hawaii Veterans Cemetary and back, 23 miles.  Occasionally other events may coincide with our ride time (like Ironman) so if you are meeting us for the first time, you may want to drop us a note from the Contact Us page.

Upcoming Events

Here's what's going on in Kona                         

  • Saturday February 8th, 8am, Bike Works Beach and Sport Waikoloa, Whale Watch Ride!  Free!  We will ride North as a leisurely ride, stopping for whale sightings, and you can choose the distance you want to ride.  Bike Works Beach and Sports will be giving away an Ocean Sports Whale watch cruise certificate!  Must be present to win!

  • Saturday February 15th, Prologue Time Trail presented by Hawaii Cycling Club.  10 miles starting at the bottom of KAIMINANI. The Prologue starts at 7:00 AM on Queen Ka’ahumanu Hwy immediately North of Ka’iminani Dr. The course goes North 10 miles.   Free to HCC members.  One day memberships for $10.  Students 18 and under receive a free 2020 membership after completing the HCC membership application. More info and Pre Registration options here!

  • Sunday February 16th, 8:08am Kailua Pier, Peaman Productions, Decarli Dip & Dash.  FREE!!   1/2 mile swim, 3.5 mile run.  No sign up, just sign out when you are done.

  • Sunday, February 16th 4:30 Old Airport Farewell Potluck for Jacky Vega! Come join us as we send off Jacky to California.  She will be greatly missed!  Bring a dish to share, a chair and BYOB.  

  • Saturday February 22nd Birthday Ride.  7am Pool Parking Lot.  Come celebrate the Birthday's of...Cathie Becker, Karen Cairns, Toni Romp-Friesen and Janet Miller.  We will ride to the Veteran's Cemetery and then meet at Kona Coffee & Tea around 9 for treats and drinks.  If you have not told us when your Birthday is, please do so!  We want to celebrate you!  Email us your birth date at coffeetalkriders@hotmail.com

  • Sunday February 23rd, 7:30am Hearts and Trails run for Women. Makani Golf Club at Puuanahulu. 5k,10k, or 10 Mile trail course can offer a variety of conditions depending on the weather, so be prepared for rainy, sunny, hot, muddy- who knows! Registration is on line or at the race. This race benefits the Pu'u Wa'a Wa'a Dry Forest Reserve.

  • Sunday February 23rd, 7am, Kailua Pier, Team Mango  Sprint Triathlon.  1/3 mile swim, 14 mile ride, 2 mile run.  Team Mango is a gracious CTR sponsor- Show your CTR Discount card for a $20 discount! For more information, visit the Team Mango Website.

  • Sunday March 1st, 8:08am Kailua Pier, Peaman Productions, Zoomin Zak Plunge and Plod Biathlon.  FREE!!   1/2 mile swim, 3.9 mile run.  No sign up, just sign out when you are done.

  • Saturday March 8th, 6:15am Alii Dr and Kam III park, The Dragon presented by HCC.  LIMITED TO THE FIRST 50 PEOPLE 9 hill stages over 5 miles with 1,400 ft of climbing.  Details including how to register at https://www.facebook.com/events/2485120738472627/ NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION.

  • Saturday March 14th, the 13th Annual Run for Hops in conjunction with PATH and the Kona Brewers Festival.  This event features a 5k and 10k race.  Discount for early registration. Register here!

Weekly Workouts

 

  • Coffee Talk Rider Mid-Week Rides. Tuesdays and Thursdays, leave from the pool at 7am. Tuesday rides usually go North and Thursday rides usually go South to climb the Mamalahoa bypass road. Both rides about 25 miles, but can vary.

  • Looking for a mid-week swim? Meet at the Kona community parking lot (free parking lot above Banyan Court) at 8am every Monday and Wednesday. People usually swim to the 1.2 mile buoy, but distances can vary.

  • Big Island Running Company has a Tuesday trot 5k fun Run/walk. Meet at their store at the Coconut Grove Marketplace at 5pm.

 

Hawaiicyclingclub.com Hawaii Cycling Club puts on local time trials and is a good place for faster riders

 

Queen K Tri Club a local tri club with a few events every year.

 

Peaman Productions! Peaman events are free and fun!  Truly one of the Kona treasures in the athletic community.

 

Team Mango  Team Mango puts on a number of different events each year which can be pretty competitive
